Here we are at the end of April. Our 2020 preschoolers who began Prep this year are still popping in to visit us and their parents are so happy with how well they have transitioned into School. We are so proud of them.
It was with much sadness that we had to say farewell to Mr Ryan who has started a new chapter in his life working in Mt Isa at the mines. He was an exceptional educator and had a great affinity with my staff, children and families. All of us at Puss In Boots wish him well and will miss his infectious laughter.
To prevent the spread of influenza my staff are booked in to receive their Flu vaccination next Wednesday. I ask if any families have their children vaccinated please let office staff know so a record can be kept on their children’s file.
At the moment I have staff that are upgrading their qualifications and furthering their studies. Miss Dora, Miss Ella, Miss Ellie and Miss Leanne are studying their Diploma; Miss Elle, Miss Emma and Miss Issy are studying their Certificate III, Miss Anna and Miss Alix are our school-based trainees and are studying Certificate III, Miss Nicole, Miss Sophie and Mr Jack are studying their Bachelor, and Mr Joshua is studying his Masters. Miss Gina and Miss Chiara are our newest staff members and are both studying their Diploma.
As the days are getting cooler please dress your child/ren accordingly and make sure they have a jumper and a change of clothes in their bag. Please send in a blanket for rest time.
The centre renovations are still going ahead with more work being done over the next two long weekends. Our new handmade pendant lighting was installed over the May Day long weekend and we hope you like it.
That is all for now. Please call into the office if you have any concerns or suggestions or if you would just like to have a chat. Take care and keep safe.
‘Til next time.

What’s happening at Puss in Boots…
As the year is progressing, so are the babies. Over the last couple of months our babies are developing in so many ways. They are rolling over, sitting, crawling, standing and walking as well as doing a lot of babbling. It’s so exciting to witness these developments.
Over the last couple of months we have welcomed Florence C, Florence N, Melodie, Lucie and Cecilia to the Morningside Nursery and we saw Harry move onto the toddler room.
The babies have enjoyed a lot of meaningful experiences, like exploring the bubbles, playing with the musical instruments, reading books (in particular the sensory books), enjoying the outdoors and investigating the plastic sea creatures. They have also enjoyed sensory experiences like goop, finger painting and water play.
To celebrate Rainbow Clothes Day the babies enjoyed finger painting, using different colours and for Harmony Day, the croissants bought in by Emilie were enjoyed by many. Crazy hair day was a lot of fun while some of the babies and Miss Chris brought in their teddy bears for the teddy bears picnic. To farewell Mr Ryan, the babies engaged in some construction work and Emilie supported the occasion by wearing her Hiviz clothes and to celebrate Easter, the babies explored the sensory eggs and bunny ears.
The babies also enjoyed exploring the nature objects and they used their problem solving skills to find the plastic toys inside the plastic tubs.
Thank you to all our families for sending in weekend input on a regular basis. It’s much appreciated. We also appreciate the important information we share through our frequent communication.
Now that the weather is getting cooler please ensure your child has warm clothes, including socks and if possible, please have them labelled.
Thank you, Miss Chris, Miss Ellie, Miss Miss Emma & Miss Anna
Can you believe it we’re a quarter way through the year already, we would like to welcome our new friends; Harry who has come over from the nursery room, he is settling in well and is enjoying interacting with the older toddlers, Maddison and Daisy who have also settled in really well and are enjoying all the musical times of singing and dancing and loving the bubbles.
The toddlers have continued to surprise the toddler staff and families with the new words that they’re starting to say, some of them are even saying two word sentences. We continue to read several books a day to the toddlers and point to the pictures to help encourage their speech development. We also continue to sing lots of songs which also helps with the toddlers vocabulary.
We have recently celebrated Easter with the toddlers, encouraging them to colour in little rabbit heads, requiring them to practice their fine-motor skills and showing them the correct way to hold the felt pens. Mothers’ Day is coming up so please look out for your invite in your child’s bag, the toddlers will be celebrating this on the 5th May at 9 am.
Congratulations to Cruz and his family welcoming a healthy girl, Hope. We look forward to seeing her around soon. Would also like to say well done to Lily as she has started walking and has become very independent. Some of the toddlers have started with some toilet training which is very exciting for them, we will slowly introduce this to the other children as well as they become older; we recommend to start by sitting your child on the toilet every nappy change to get them used to the toilet. If you are looking at starting to toilet train your children don’t hesitate to ask the toddler staff about wanting to start, we’re more than happy to help with the transition.
Thank you, Miss Renee & Miss Ella
Junior Kindergarten 1
Hello Junior Kindergarten 1 Families!
What a busy but exciting two months we have had! Over the past two months we have watched the Junior Kindy 1 children smash their milestones and succeed in everything they do!
Firstly, we have been really focusing on toilet training this month, noticing the children doing a lot more wees and even starting to wear training pants!
The children have engaged in a lot more activities to help enhance their physical skills, including ball games, gold, climbing the new playground and obstacle courses. Through these activities the children have been building relationships and demonstrating great teamwork!
We have also welcomed a new member to our Junior Kindy 1 family this month; Seaweed the class fish! All the children are over the moon and love feeding him daily.
The past two months have consisted of celebrating a lot of exciting dates. The children have celebrated a lot of birthdays, dress up as a miner day to farewell Mr Ryan, teddy bears picnic, crazy hair day, world health day, harmony day, St. Patrick’s day and camping in Junior Kindy 1 day!
Junior Kindy 1 enjoyed their first excursion for the year, walking down to the local cafe for babycinos. All the children were on their best behaviour and enjoyed exploring outside of Puss in Boots.
Cooking has been another success over the past two months. The children have enjoyed helping prepare sausage rolls and spaghetti Bolognese with Miss Jess. They especially enjoyed eating their yummy cooking for lunch!
With covid-19 getting in the way, Miss Elle and I tried to make Easter as exciting as it could be for the children. The children engaged in a week’s long of activities including having an Easter egg hunt, making Easter cookies, decorating cookies, bunny painting, carrot making and watching Easter videos! The children had a great week and were very excited for the Easter Bunny to come!
We have been missing Miss Satoko a lot over the past 2 months but are excitingly counting down the days until she returns to us at the end of May!
With the cold months quickly approaching, could I please ask that you are dressing the children in suitable clothing and ensuring there is spare warm clothes in their bag. Also, if you are able to slowly start bringing in a winter blanket, that would be appreciated. We have had a great two months with our Junior Kindy 1 children, and are excited to continue the fun adventures and experiences throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns don’t feel afraid to talk to Miss Elle or myself, we only want the best for our children and appreciate your feedback.
Until next time.
Thank you, Miss Jess, Miss Satoko & Miss Elle
Junior Kindergarten 2
These two months have been very eventful and jam packed with many activities for the children to enjoy. They have learned a lot and developed many skills in all areas which are continuously improving.
We have participated in Puss In Boots Morningside Care Centre scheduled activities of Billy’s Buddies, Tennis, PhysiKids, Geckoes Wildlife Day, Cheeky Monkey and Green Thumbs gardening program. All these events are wonderful ways to help the children thrive through fun and interactive learning.
Our cooking experiences with the children are always fun. The children get hands-on experience and are involved by helping to prepare the food. The children help cut up the ingredients and have a taste tester while prepping. We cooked mini pizzas and pasta and meatballs for lunch, both meals went down a treat for all the children.
We implemented and enjoyed multiple art and craft activities. We painted Irish Lucky Clover Leaves for St.Patrick’s Day celebrations. Miss Linda discussed her Irish heritage and home culture with the children. We painted Easter Bunnies for Easter and had an Easter egg hunt with the children in JK1. We also decorated egg shaped biscuits which the children were keen to eat and take some home as well. We made a large collage as a group activity for all to get involved in. Our art and craft is displayed in our JK2 room.
We celebrated Harmony Day by dressing up in orange colours and making some traditional and cultural meals which represent our heritage. Kaira made food for everyone to taste and it was thoroughly enjoyed.
We had two crazy hair days which we love because it makes everyone laugh and allows children and staff to express themselves in a childlike way and be a little silly.
I would like to thank all the families who have sent in the family photos for our family tree. It’s not too late for those to send some in as we would love to display your family on our wall.
And finally thank you for sending in Family Input. We enjoy sharing amongst our JK2 family and extending our children’s learning.
We are looking forward to the coming months ahead.
Thank you, Miss Linda, Miss Gina & Miss Chiara
Welcome to our March & April newsletter blurb.
We have had a busy couple of months since our last newsletter. Our new children have now become familiar with the Morningside Kindergarten 2 room routines and are all doing really well, showing how comfortable they are in the new environment and continuing to build relationships with educators and peers. All the children are very much enjoying spending time in the upgraded playground. They are loving the new cubby house, the sandpit’s mud kitchen and the obstacle course.
The children have shown a lot of interest in the environment and with their health and well-being. There have been a lot of discussions at mat time about the importance of saving our bees and the positive impact they have on our environment. We continually talk about sustainable practices and the children have recently planted flowers and herbs in our garden. We also celebrate indigenous culture every morning by acknowledging our land and ancestors and thank Mother earth for all she provides.
Recently we celebrated World Health day and all that it means. The children participated in discussions and came up with imaginative and intelligent answers to questions regarding exercise, healthy eating, sleep, and cleanliness. The children also participated in many physical activities whilst outside.
Kindy 2 children have enjoyed many group art and craft activities, such as collage and painting, and have demonstrated and represented their ideas imaginatively. Literacy and numeracy concepts have been explored using phonics to practice singing the ABC song, which they really enjoy, learning about opposites and counting up to twenty through song.
We have experienced many wonderful incursions and fun days such as World Wildlife Day, Cheeky Monkey Club, Harmony day, Little Green Thumbs, Earth Day, World Book Day, Rainbow Clothes Day, Come Dressed as your Parent Day, Cooking Day, Let’s Laugh Day, Dress as a Miner Day, Teddy Bear’s Picnic and Crazy Hair Day.
We are looking forward to the Mother’s Day morning tea and are hoping to see many of our children’s loved ones there. Please remember to RSVP the office if you are coming on Friday 7th May 2021.
Thank you for the family input, photos, show and tell, that you all provide for us. This information helps us to develop a meaningful and authentic curriculum based on your child’s interests, strengths and needs.
Miss Dora, Miss Tricia and Miss Andrea would like to say how much we are enjoying learning and having fun with your wonderful children. Thank you for entrusting us to care for them.
Thank you, Miss Dora, Miss Tricia & Miss Andrea
Hello again from the Morningside Preschool Room!
We hope everyone had a safe and happy Easter, despite our surprise lockdown throwing a spanner into the works. I would like to extend our thanks to all families that continuously bring in wonderful show and tell and family input forms. They help add to our curriculum and planning to give your children the best learning experiences possible. Just a reminder to any families that have not returned their Kindergarten paperwork please do so ASAP. We have loved getting to know all our new Preschoolers over the first term of the Kindergarten program and we have participated in some great learning. We would also like to welcome Skye and her family to our Preschool family.
We have participated in so many different celebrations to get to know your family! Thanks to everyone that shared a dish from their culture for Harmony Day. We loved seeing children dress up as their parents and dressing up for rainbow day! A sea of green flooded into Puss in Boots to celebrate St Patrick’s Day, and the Preschoolers learnt all about the Shamrock as we collaged a lucky four-leaf clover. We loved our Teddy Bear Picnic, we had lots of fun getting to know each other’s teddies as we enjoyed lunch.
Gecko’s Wildlife joined us as well teaching us about a range of mini beasts. They even bought some different stick insects for us to hold and observe. One of them was so big it was nearly bigger than the babies in the Nursery. The Preschoolers interest has extended from this and they are constantly searching for creatures out in our garden.
We have undergone some great learning in the Preschool room over the last couple of months as well. We created a map of our community, we became Palaeontologists for the day and dug up dinosaur bones, we also created a volcano and had it explode everywhere! We have been doing lots of art including finger painting and lots of different paint brush paintings. We have engaged in various collages as well, getting our fingers all sticky as we go.
As an extension Elliott’s Show and Tell, which was a Bee Hotel, we started having a discussion about Bees. The plan is to make a Bee and Butterfly friendly garden and to make our own Bee Hotel. This will be a work in progress. We also remembered the Anzac’s and learned about the sacrifice our servicemen and women have made. The children also learned about the significance of the Red Poppy, all contributing their own interpretation which can be seen on our wall.
In conclusion, a reminder to send in those Family Photos for those of you who haven’t done so yet. These are always a great source of conversation amongst the children and Educators. Also please don’t forget to keep contributing to your child’s Strength Trees. Also, we plan on having mid-year Parent/Educator interviews. These are just an informal chat to ascertain how your child is progressing and what strategies we can engage in moving forward. The date is to be confirmed and notification will be given via email.
That’s all for now.
Thank you, Miss Tracy, Miss Nicole and Mr Jack
